What lot clearing costs in Punta Gorda
Lot clearing runs anywhere from $2,500 to $7,000, depending on how many trees are on the lot. A lot of grass and light brush sits at the low end. A lot thick with pines, pepper trees and stumps sits at the high end.
Burrows, haul-off and tight access can also move the price. Our lot clearing cost guide explains what drives it. Those are Chop's own ranges. Your exact price comes after he sees the lot, and the quote is free: call or text (239) 560-2996.
Tree permits inside the city
The city's rule comes from Chapter 26, Section 12.3(k) of the Punta Gorda code. Trees under 12 inches at breast height fall below that section's threshold, but the big pines and oaks on many lots do not. The city also lists cases where a tree removal permit can be issued at no charge: a tree that is a hazard to life or property that cannot be fixed without removing it, a tree that is dead or dying past saving, or one with a disease that can spread to other trees.
Replacement is the other part. If taking trees out drops the property below the city's minimum landscape requirements, the code requires replacement trees. Ask the city what your lot's minimum is before deciding which shade trees go. A permit pulled before the job costs far less time than a stop on the job.
Lots just outside the city line
In unincorporated Charlotte County, the county's tree permit package lists a $55 environmental inspection fee and a $70 single-family residential tree permit, plus $1 per caliper inch removed. Exotic trees, and trees inside the house, driveway and septic footprint plus 6 feet around it, are exempt from the per-inch fee. Hand clearing an unimproved lot without removing live trees over 4 inches is allowed without a permit, as long as no machinery is involved.
Charlotte County also has seasons. Scrub-jay nesting runs March 1 to June 30, with no clearing on scrub-jay parcels in that window, and a bald eagle nest within 660 feet calls for a management plan. Gopher tortoise burrows need 25 feet on any lot, inside the city or out. Our burrow guide explains how we check before we start.
Canal lots and low ground
On a canal lot the bank is the edge of the job. We keep brush, root balls and loose soil on the land side, and nothing gets pushed toward the water. Shoreline work, such as rip-rap or bank shaping, runs under its own permits and is done behind a turbidity barrier, so a plain clearing job stays back from it.
Low lots also hold water in the wet season, May 15 to October 15. A cleared lot with ruts from heavy machines on wet ground stays a mud pit for weeks. When we can, we schedule clearing for drier stretches and keep the tracks on firm ground, and we leave the lot rough-level so it sheds water instead of pooling.
What drives the price of a Punta Gorda lot
Density of growth, the number and size of trees that need removal, how many stumps come out, how far the trucks travel, and how many loads leave the lot. A lot mostly in pepper and palmetto is a different job from one with large oaks along the line. We price it after walking the lot. Our lot clearing cost guide explains each factor, and our Punta Gorda page covers what comes after clearing.
